Who are Way To Travel trips for?

Our trips are for anyone who loves adventure, meeting new people and experiencing a destination beyond the usual tourist trail. They're designed for travellers aged 40+ — many of whom travel solo — but open to adults of any age. Our minimum age is 18.

Do many people travel solo?

Yes! Around 80% of our travellers join us solo, so you definitely won't be the odd one out. We also regularly welcome couples and friends travelling together.

I'm nervous about travelling solo. Is that normal?

Completely normal — and you won't be the only one feeling that way! Once you're picked up, meet your Local Tour Guide and start meeting the group, those nerves usually disappear pretty quickly. It's amazing how fast a group of strangers becomes a travel family.

How big are the groups?

Our groups are typically around 12–16 travellers, with a maximum of 20. Big enough for a great social atmosphere, but small enough to keep things personal.

Can I travel with a friend or partner?

Absolutely. Friends and couples are very welcome. If two of you are travelling together, you'll have your own twin or double room as standard.

How fit do I need to be?

There's no specific fitness level required and there's no such thing as being "too old". Some trips include walks, viewpoints or more active experiences, but everything is optional. If you're unsure about your fitness, get in touch and we'll happily talk you through the more active parts of your chosen itinerary.

What if I have limited mobility or a medical condition?

That doesn't necessarily mean you can't join us, but we'd recommend chatting with us before booking. We can talk through your circumstances and itinerary to help you decide whether the trip is right for you.

Do I have to take part in every activity?

Not at all. It's your holiday. We've included loads for you to experience, but there's never any pressure to do everything. Fancy some downtime instead? Absolutely fine. Just don't miss the bus when it's time to head to the next destination!

Will I have free time?

Definitely. We balance included activities and local experiences with plenty of opportunities to explore independently, grab a coffee, shop, book a massage or simply relax.

How do I book a trip?

It's super simple. Find the trip you fancy, choose your departure date and reserve your place with a $200 USD deposit. If your dream departure is showing as full, get in touch anyway — we'll double-check whether we can squeeze you on!

When do I pay the remaining balance?

Your $200 USD deposit is non-refundable, with the remaining balance due 60 days before departure.

Can I pay in my own currency?

Yes. Our trip prices are displayed in US dollars, but when you head through to our WeTravel payment page you'll have the option to pay in your own currency.

Can I pay for my trip in instalments?

Absolutely. Once you've paid your deposit, you can make partial payments towards your trip whenever you like. As long as your full balance is paid 60 days before departure, how you get there is up to you.

Can I change my trip date?

Yes. We offer unlimited free date changes up until 60 days before departure. Changes within 60 days are subject to our Terms & Conditions and a late date-change fee.

What happens if Way To Travel cancels my trip?

Thankfully, we've never had to cancel a trip since we started! If we ever did, you'd have the option of receiving a full refund or moving your booking to another available future departure.

Which airports should I fly into and out of?

This depends on the adventure you're joining. Vietnam Give Back 13 Days: fly into Hanoi (HAN), fly out of Da Nang (DAD). Vietnam Give Back 17 Days: fly into Hanoi (HAN), fly out of Ho Chi Minh City (SGN). Vietnam Limited Edition Adventure: fly into Hanoi (HAN), fly out of Ho Chi Minh City (SGN). Sri Lanka Limited Edition Adventure: fly into Colombo (CMB), fly out of Colombo (CMB).

What time should I arrive on Day 1?

Any time! Day 1 is an arrival day and your included airport pickup is available regardless of what time your flight lands. We'll collect your flight details before you travel and send you clear instructions explaining exactly where to meet your driver.

Is my airport pickup included?

Yes. Your arrival airport pickup is included when arriving on Day 1. If you book pre-trip accommodation through us, your airport pickup is included on your earlier arrival day too. If you arrive early and arrange your own accommodation elsewhere, you'll need to arrange your own airport transfer and meet us at the starting hotel on Day 1.

Can I arrive a few days early?

Absolutely — and it's a great option if you'd like some time to relax, recover from the flight or explore before the adventure begins. You can book pre-trip accommodation with us at the same hotel where your trip starts, which also includes your earlier airport pickup. Alternatively, arrange your own accommodation and simply meet us at the starting hotel on Day 1.

What time should I fly home?

The final day is a checkout day with no activities planned, so you can fly at whatever time works best for you. If possible, we recommend flying later in the day so you've got time for breakfast and those final goodbyes before heading home.

Is my airport transfer home included?

Your return airport transfer isn't included, as everyone tends to leave at different times or continue their travels elsewhere. Your Local Tour Guide will be happy to help arrange your transfer or onward journey.

Where's the best place to search for flights?

There are loads of places to compare flights online. We regularly use Trip.com, Skyscanner and Google Flights to compare routes, airlines, journey times and prices. Found a flight but not sure if it's the right one? Send it over before you book and we'll happily check that it works with your trip.

Can you check my flight before I book?

Absolutely! Once you've secured your spot, you're free to book your flights. If you've found a flight but aren't 100% sure it works with the itinerary, send it over before booking and we'll happily check it for you.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Don't panic. Just keep us updated. We'll also be keeping an eye on your flight information. If your arrival time changes, we'll coordinate with our local team to adjust your airport pickup accordingly.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. Travel insurance is compulsory when travelling with us. We recommend arranging it as soon as you've booked your trip. Make sure your policy covers your destination, the full duration of your travels and any other destinations you'll be visiting.

Will you help me with my visa?

Of course. We'll send you information about arranging any visas you may need before travelling. Requirements vary depending on your nationality and destination, so ultimately it's your responsibility to have the correct entry requirements — but if you're unsure, just ask us.

Do I need any vaccinations?

We don't require proof of any specific vaccinations to join our trips. We recommend speaking to your doctor or a travel-health professional before travelling, as they'll be best placed to advise based on your medical history and destination.

We'll send you an in-depth packing list after you book, covering everything you might want to consider. Don't worry — you don't need to bring everything on it! Packing relatively light makes travelling much easier.

Suitcase or backpack?

Either! There's no need to turn up with a giant backpack if you're happier travelling with a suitcase. There's no general strict luggage limit, but we'd recommend keeping your checked luggage around 20kg or less. Laundry services are readily available throughout our trips.

Will I meet everyone before travelling?

Yes! We'll create a Facebook Messenger group chat for your departure so everyone can introduce themselves and start getting to know each other. You'll also be invited to our wider Facebook community, where you can meet previous travellers, ask questions and see who's joining future adventures.

I've never travelled this far before. How much help will I get?

As much as you need. We're a small travel company, which means our support is genuinely personal. Flights, visas, insurance, packing or just some pre-trip nerves — you're talking to real people who know our trips and destinations, and we're here to help.

What kind of accommodation do you use?

We've handpicked our accommodation using years of experience travelling these destinations. Expect comfortable hotels, guesthouses, homestays, bungalows and occasionally somewhere a little more unique. We're not about five-star luxury, but we are proud of where we stay. Expect things like air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and swimming pools at some properties.

Who will I share a room with?

Solo travellers share a twin room with another solo traveller of the same sex. Couples can share a double room. We encourage mixing up roomies during the adventure so you get to know different people, although if you've found the perfect roomie, you're welcome to stick together!

Can I have my own room?

Yes. Private Room Upgrades are available on all our trips, subject to availability, and can be selected during booking. Certain experiences, such as the overnight train in Vietnam, are excluded.

What's the overnight train in Vietnam like?

It's an experience! You'll sleep in a four-berth cabin with two sets of bunk beds, a lockable door, air-conditioning, toilets onboard and space for your luggage. It might not be your best night's sleep, but sitting around chatting with your travel buddies as you journey through Vietnam is all part of the adventure.

Which meals are included?

This varies by trip, with the exact inclusions shown on each trip page. Generally, we include the majority of breakfasts plus a selection of lunches and dinners. We deliberately leave some meals free so you can explore, follow your Local Tour Guide's recommendations and choose exactly what you fancy.

Can you cater for dietary requirements?

Absolutely. We've welcomed travellers who are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and those with various allergies. Tell us before you travel and our local team will do everything they reasonably can to communicate your requirements and help throughout the trip.

Will I get to try local food?

We certainly hope so! You'll have plenty of opportunities to eat at local restaurants and discover street food. Your Local Tour Guide can also point you towards their favourites and the places where the locals actually eat.

Who will be looking after us?

You'll have an experienced Local Tour Guide with you from start to finish. They'll handle the day-to-day organisation, share their local knowledge, prepare you for what's coming next and help with everything from restaurants and free-time recommendations to cultural customs, tipping and translations.

How do we travel around?

We use private transport wherever practical, while some adventures may also include trains, boats, domestic flights or other local transport. The exact transport included is detailed on each individual trip page.

You'll have Wi-Fi at almost every hotel, but we also recommend considering a local SIM or eSIM. We'll advise you on suitable networks before arriving. Having mobile data is incredibly useful for maps, recommendations, group messages and keeping in touch with home.

Are your destinations safe?

We carefully choose where we travel and work with trusted local teams who know their destinations inside out. Nowhere is completely risk-free, but something we hear surprisingly often is that travellers feel just as safe — and sometimes safer — walking around our destinations than they do back home.

What happens if I get sick?

Having a local team around you makes a huge difference when something doesn't go to plan. Your Local Tour Guide can help you find a pharmacy, doctor or hospital and assist with communication where needed. If something prevented you from immediately continuing with the group, we'd work with our local team to make sure you're supported.

How much spending money will I need?

This depends on the destination and length of your adventure, so we'll provide guidance for your specific trip. Most of the big stuff is already included. You'll mainly need money for non-included meals, drinks, free-time activities, massages, souvenirs and other personal spending.

Do I need to bring cash?

No. You can withdraw local currency from an ATM once you arrive or exchange money locally. Airport exchange rates aren't always the best, so your Local Tour Guide can point you towards trusted places with better rates once you've settled in.

Your Local Tour Guide will explain the local tipping culture and advise you throughout the trip on what's appropriate for restaurants, drivers, activities and additional guides.

Are there any hidden costs?

No surprises from us. You'll need to budget separately for your flights, travel insurance, meals not listed as included, personal spending, optional free-time activities and your return airport transfer. Every trip page clearly shows what's included before you book.

What happens when I land?

We'll send you clear meeting instructions before you travel. One of our trusted local drivers will be waiting with a Way To Travel sign and take you straight to the hotel. Your Local Tour Guide will help you check in and introduce you to anyone who's already arrived.

What happens on Day 1?

Day 1 is primarily an arrival day, giving everyone time to land, check in and settle down. That evening we'll get together for our welcome dinner and usually a couple of casual drinks for anyone who fancies it. Nothing too crazy — we've got an adventure ahead!

What happens on the final day?

The final day is your checkout day with no activities planned. You're free to depart whenever works for you. Where possible, we recommend a later flight so you've got time for those final goodbyes. Your Local Tour Guide can help arrange your airport transfer or onward travel.
